Acadia View House
Southwest Harbor, ME
A retired couple longed for a summer home to enjoy the natural wonders of this beautiful island while spending time with their growing family. Five bedrooms, and a large living room, dining room, and kitchen, added up to over 4,000 square feet, but the couple wanted the house to appear modest from the street. So with help from the sloping topography I was able to achieve a compact and unassuming approach from the street, while still allowing for expansive and light-filled public spaces overlooking the harbor. The living room, dining room, kitchen, and loft space are all open to each other, allowing for a convivial atmosphere, while the bedrooms each maintain their own sense of seclusion in the wilderness.
